"Quality Puppies from America's Heartland"
Buying a puppy over the Internet can be a wonderful experience - or a heartbreaking one. Everyone has heard
television reports or read a newspaper or magazine article regarding Internet scams. There are some simple, easy and
common-sense ways to prevent being "scammed" in your Internet purchase of a puppy.

The first, and probably the most simple rule is NEVER send money to someone who will not give you (at least) their
name, address and phone number. Most scams will involve sending money to a Western Union station without having
any information regarding the seller.

Secondly, if a puppy of the breed you are interested in is being offered for sale at a greatly reduced price or being
offered for free with only shipping charges (usually about $150), you are probably seeing a scam. Ask to see pictures
of the parents of the puppy. Ask for a copy of the pedigree to be faxed to you. Remember: if it sounds too good to be
true - it probably is!

Third, if you are a bit unsure regarding the honesty of the person you are dealing with, ask them to take a picture of
the puppy you are interested in beside a card that has something you request written on it (like your name) and the
date you request. If the seller won't (or can't!) provide this - shop somewhere else!

We will provide, upon request, the name and phone number of our attending veterinarian. We will also provide you with
the names and phone numbers of fellow breeders and friends who are willing to answer questions regarding our
business practices and our reputation. We encourage you to contact them and do your homework prior to purchasing
a puppy from us.

We will NOT provide you with the names and phone numbers of past customers, nor will we provide your name and
phone number to future customers. We feel that this would be an invasion of your privacy and theirs. We do, however,
gladly include our customer's kind words in the testimonials below. We would be happy to include yours in the future
as well.

Read through the referral letters below to gain a feeling of the relationships we have been lucky enough to have built
with our puppy families in the past. We did not include this page in the past, but have decided we would now share the
wonderful praise we receive with everyone. We would be honored to include you in the growing list of New Designs
friends!
Hello Nancy,
Just wanted to drop a line to let you know Mia's doing fantastic and she is such a great joy to have! My other dog
is playing really good with her and I know they will grow to be best friends shortly. She's only went poop in the
house twice as she is good at whining to let me know something's up and she follows the other dogs out the
door. She doesn't have the house peeing thing down but does go outside when I take her out. I think she's doing
great for only 10 weeks old! My other dog woofs at her at night if she starts to cry and she shuts up right away so
she is really good at sleeping in her crib by herself as long as she knows we are right there beside her. She is so
precious I wish I would have gotten a Maltese a long time ago! Thank you so much for such a precious gift I look
forward to watching her grow and play every day.Bye for now,
Robin

Nancy,
Since it was a year ago that we first met you and you were gracious to spoil us with a daughter of yours, it is far
past due for us to show you the beautiful young 7 year old girl she has become. Once more we are so thankful
that you take such care with your babies, as this one shines with happiness and a joy for life.
Jason

Dear Nancy;
Just a short note to let you know that Lilly arrived safe. She is even sweeter than I imagined. I picked her up at
the Portland airport last night and drove back down to Ashland, a five hour drive, so I didn’t get home until after
1am. She slept well last night and is getting along well with Rudy even though he’s been trying to hump her all
morning. Finally, I want to thank you for your precious gift to our family. I can see that she has been given much
tender loving care and you can rest assured that we will continue that. I also appreciate the professional manner
in which you conducted the transaction. Everything was as you said, and went smoothly. We will be taking her to
the vet Monday morning. Most Sincerely,
Bill

Hi Nancy,
Our Zoey is doing very well. She has almost doubled her weight! When I took her to her vet he was really
impressed with her health record and with Zoey herself. He said she had a great build, beautiful eyes and coloring
and very sweet. She can be a little devil and she loves to rough house with my 17yr. old son. We had her in
puppy school for one week and she did fine. After that week I realized that she would probably benefit when she
was a little older. She and I are working very hard on her house training. She knows she should go outside but
doesn't give me a signal just yet. But we're on a schedule and I can tell when she needs to go out. I will send you
some pictures of her in the mail. I'd send them in the email but I not computer savvy enough to know how to do
that. I'll have the pictures developed this week and then send some on to you. I got her a pumpkin outfit for
Halloween (she hates it of course) and I'll try to include of picture of her in her costume. We love our Zoey.

Nancy and Tom,
Daisy is doing so well. We put her on the puppy pad when we got her home and she immediately went. She has
been going on it ever since. She is so smart. And full of life. A real people dog. She barks when we leave her in a
room alone to find out where we are. Follows us everywhere. We are really really enjoying her. Bob has her
spoiled already. She is eating and drinking well and chewing very well. We have bought her a few chew toys and
she enjoys them. Helps on the fingers and toes. Thanks and we will keep in touch!!
Bob and Donna

on him! haha He came to the barn with me this morning, and was the STAR of the show! He also loved the

and I and everyone else ADORES him!!! VERY pleased! Thank you soooooooooooooooo much! :) well I'd love to
brag about him more, but we're off to the barn to play some more! Keep in touch! If you EVER want to call and

Hi Nancy,
Well, the plane was an hour late arriving but Yolanda got here just fine. Her little tail was just wagging happily
when I picked her and gave her her first hug and kiss and let her run around before the ride home. She seemed to
be none the worse for the trip and slept most of the way home. My Dad is just thrilled with her and I know she will
be happy. He will be taking her to the vet on Monday for a check. Thank you so much for sending your little girl to
us. I promise she will be loved and cared for. Have a great day,Vicki

Hey Nancy,
All went well with Maggi's flight. She is adorable, we love her. The weekend was hecktic, but she handled it well
and we are home now so she can start to settle in. She is down stairs yelling as we speak, but she is tired.
Thanks for every thing. Just wanted you to know.
Julie and Dave

Hi Tom and Nancy,
We love our new addition. We have named her Zoey Olivia. I think she is adjusting really well to her new home.
It's really hard to tear ourselves away from her. She waddles like a duck and has the rear end of a bunny! She is
so sweet. My teenage son has gotten her to use her voice and bark a little. Leave it up to him! We had her sleep
with us last night. I bought this book "The Dog Listener" and that's what they said to do for a brand new puppy.
She snuggled and was good all night. We couldn't be happier.
Angie

Dear Nancy and Tom,
We would like to take out the time to say thank you for the wonderful addition to our family. Paris Mercedes Ross
is one of a kind. The family just adores her as well as our pit bull Prada whose also 3 months. Considering this
was our first on-line purchase, we were a little worried ,but you and your husband made the experience pleasant
and sweet. We would definately recommend and purchase another pup in the near future. Thanks a million
Von and Michele

Hi Nancy.
Thought I'd let you know how my sweet baby is doing. He cried for about 5 minutes when we started for home,
then slept until we got past Kansas City. From that point on, he snuggled in my mom's lap the rest of the way
home. Hayden has a wonderful personality. He warms up to everyone immediately, and they fall in love with him
instantly. I have been home with him the past two days; tomorrow will be his first day alone. I may come home at
noon to see him. He is doing pretty good on his potty training, still a ways to go. I tried to kennel him the first
night home and he cried and cried. So ... he sleeps with me. All night. Good as gold. No accidents. I'm enjoying
every minute with him, not sure what I did without him. I'll keep you posted on his progress. Thanks,
Karen

Hi Nancy and Tom,
Greetings from Massachusetts. Hope this finds you both doing well. Hope you enjoyed your summer. We had a
nice summer but it sure went by fast. Figured we update you on how Kacey was doing. He is such a good little
boy! He spent his summer in Norfolk and in Falmouth, Cape Cod. He had lots of fun and lots of attention. It's
amazing to see how quickly he adapted to both houses.
We have taken him for all his vet appointments, he has had lots of shots, and he was neutered at 16weeks.
Can't say there was a big change afterwards. He has been a good puppy the whole time. He is pretty much
trained, but of course, we still have a few accidents along the way, primarily because we forget to take him out
immediately after playing with him. Sometimes we forget he is still a puppy. My daughter is trying to teach him to
jingle some bells on the front door, in order to tell us he has to go out. He does do it sometimes, but other times
he does it just to go back outside. All in all, if we are good about making sure he has the opportunity to go
outside, we have no accidents.
He goes to sleep in his crate every night, very nicely now, without barking. Only did that for about the first two
weeks or so. He is awake when my husband goes to work but will stay quiet and resting until the kids go to
school. Very pleased with that. We leave his crate door opened all day and when he walks around the kitchen he
can come and go into it as he pleases, and he does, just to take a quick rest or to just check his place out. We
never really let him walk around, out of our site, because he would chew and eat everything. He has a special bed
in our family room so when the family is in there, he can join us too. We have a small section in the kitchen so
that if we need to leave for a bit, he can be out moving around and not locked up but where he can't get into any
trouble. At first it use to be the place that he would pee inside, but since he's been trained, he doesn't do that
anymore. Thank God.
Kacey just got weighed the other day at his vet visit. Yes, he's a big boy. Weighed in at 10.3 lbs. Doctor said he
looks great and has a great coat. He has been very healthy, only one little ear infection. He shakes when I take
him to the groomers but the girls that does him says that he's such a good little boy. She hates giving him back
to me each time. He just got his hair cut two days ago. We took a picture of him for you to see. I think that his
golden-brown areas are becoming lighter. He is very, very cute! Everywhere we go, we get stopped and someone
wants to play with him. From little tots to grandmothers! He is very gentle and doesn't mind the kids patting him.
He loves running in the yard with the kids and that definitely tires him out. The only dog that he seems to bark at,
in a different way, are shit tzu.
Kacey certainly knows his name. It has been fun seeing him learn all the new things from knowing his name to
actually listening to commands. He will "sit" when told, "stay" (most of the time- unless dinner is being placed on
the ground in his bowl) , and the kids just taught him to give you his "paw". The tricks are cute but I'm just happy
that he pees outside! He really is bonding nicely with all of us. He even knows my oldest son when he comes
home from college for a visit. He knows when he has done something good or bad, from the tone in our voices.
Never yelling just a stern tone. He hides his face and wipes it like a kitten. Glenn has a friend, every time he
walks to the kitchen counter to prepare any food. Kacey follows him and just looks. Glenn puts the real juice from
the steak, on Kacey's dry food, and he gobbles it up. Of course, there are occassionly a few tiny pieces of meat
in it too.
We had a town celebration today and of course, Kacey came with us. He was the hit of the day. The attention
he gets is incredible. There's not one person that doesn't comment on how cute he is. Some people have even
asked us where and how we got Kacey. We have given your name and website to a few people that we don't even
know. We are happy to spread the word about you because we couldn't have been more pleased with our
experience with you.
Well, I think I've covered just about everything. We are thankful that we managed to hook up with a nice breeder
like yourselves. Our home has been a different place since Kacey has arrived. It seems like he has been here for
years already. Take a look at his recent picture. We will try to stay in touch. Between soccer, fall softball, Boy
Scouts, work schedules, school and everything else, we are back in full swing and crazy busy.
Good night for now,
Jeanne

Hello Nancy,
I hope you and your family are doing well. Oh well, Junious has completed his puppy shots and now weighs 9
pounds. He should be neutered next month. One of his ears is up and the other down. Both come up when he is
alert to something. He is an excellent watch dog but when it comes to guarding he will run behind me in a second
and bark from there. He is now in his third week of obedience training. I think he enjoys being with the other
puppies more than the training. SMILE. This Thursday will be the first anniversary of my moms death and if I did
not have Junious in my life I don't know what I would be doing now. He keeps me so occupied that I don't have
time to be lonesome and depressed. He is such an important part of my life and he is all I talk about at work. My
coworkers have noticed the change in me. They even gave me a Puppy Shower at work. This was a first in our
office. Thank you for allowing me to have him. You could have chosen someone else to purchase him. Junious is
spoiled rotten. He likes me to carry him around the house. He has quite a few outfits. I will have to send you his
picture in his Harley Davidson jacket and cap. He has a fireman's outfit for Halloween. They even gave me a
Puppy Shower at work. Take care and God bless.
Gertrude

Hi Nancy!!
I wanted to touch base with you and let you see what a BEAUTIFUL puppy little Erma has grown in to!! She is
SOO CUTE! She has long, stick legs and weighs 5.4 pounds! We love her soo much!!
Julie

Hi Nancy!
Just wanted to check in with you about little Fergus. We did change his name to Jack. His AKC papers state
'Cadillac Black Jack'. He has learned to mind us a little... He sits and lays on command, but most of the time he
flies around the house chasing toys and being a puppy. I was shocked at the litter training success. He was
completely potty trained in about 2-3 weeks! We don't even have to worry about it at this point. We can even
move the litter boxes and goes directly to them. We had attempted to keep him in his crate at night, but he would
absolutely not have that! He is a pampered pup that sleeps in bed and only under the duvet. Eventually, during
the night time he will work his way up to the pillows. He has so much energy and he is fast as lightning! Hope
you enjoy the update! Sincerely,
Lindsey

Hi Nancy.
It's been a while, but I'd like to say Toby couldn't have been any finder of a pup. He's so much fun and really
smart for his age. The clicker really works! He's doing wo good. He goes with me everywhere, but he whines
when I leave him home. What a joy he is. This Saturday he goes in for his distemper shot to continue from your
vet. I can't wait to see how much he weighs. He was 4.6 pounds. He's much more now and he's taller than the
t-cup Chihuahua we have. He loves to play with my chocolate lab in the back yard and loves to swim in the pool.
What a character! Well, I must go...Toby's telling me he wants to go outside. Bye for now!
Gary

Hi there Nancy,
Thank yo so much for Stuart. He is such a sweetheart. We brought him to the vet for a quick visit and the vet
wanted me to tell you how impressed she was. She had extremely high praise for you and Stuart. He's doing very
well. Only waking me once a night. He has a big play pen in our kitchen/family room and he sleeps in the crate
from the plane ride at night. He loves to bounce around the yard, so much that my daughter has given him the
middle name of "Springs". He makes us all smile and warms our hearts!Tha nks again!
Eileen

Hi, Nancy!
Wanted to thank you for the lovely puppy. I love Lucky... well he's name now is Chagy. He is adorable, playful,
charming and all the other words available to describe the cutest little thing. He loves to play with his toys, run
around and cuddle on my lap and on the futon. It was funny to see him sleep in the futon with his toys and
blanket. I heard him bark for the first time today. Well, I'll keep you posted and thanks again.
Sincerely, Ceci

Hi Nancy
Just wanted to let you know how little Raven is doing. She has made hersaelf at home from day one-there really
was no adjustment period...for her. Romeo on the other hand didn't think it was fair that he had to share his toys.
Every time Raven would grab one, he ran over and took it from her and stuck it somewhere. So she got a different
one and he took it from her too. About day 3 he started to play with her. It's the most hilarious thing I've seen in a
long time!! They play tug of war or should I say crack the whip(Romeo has the advantage). They also love to
wrestle. Raven gets sooo mad!! She starts barking and growling and attacks him only to get tossed on the floor
again. When she gets alittle bigger she may just kick Romeos butt. We put her in a small crate when we are
gone and at night, she has not messed in it once. At first at night she would cry to go out but the last 2 or 3
nights she has gone all night without going out side. I hope that means she will learn fast!! Well Thats all for now I
will send some pics when she gets a little bigger. bye for now
Dawn

Hi Nancy,
I wanted to write you a quick note because we had said we would keep you updated on Kaiser and we've not
been very good at that. We adopted him a year ago and he's been doing great. We have a baby now and he is
adjusting very well to her. He is even protective sometimes:) I have attached 2 pictures of him. One was taken
close to his birthday and the other last winter. We really enjoy him and he is a great (and spoiled) dog! Thanks,
Lea and Andy

Tom and Nancy
Thank you again for Maverick. He has been to the vet for his last shots, including rabies vaccine and the vet says
he is in great health. He has taken over my home. And my heart.
Phyllis

Hi Nancy!
Just wanted to let you know everything is going well. i took Ernie (he is responding to his new name too!) to my
vet on monday and he got a clean bill of health. He IS a spunky little thing. We love him to death! So far only one
accident in the house otherwise he potties outside all the time. Chins seem very easy to train (hopefully I'm not
speaking too soon)! He's been very playful and loves to snuggle. I have a large dog playpen sitting in my kitchen
where he sleeps at night and has his quiet time during the day.Hhe actually likes his little getaway. My 6 yr old
Chin, George, loves him to death too. They play and play. George seems to know not to play too rough with
him--alot of mouthing, nudging and foot play. Must be instinct. Anyway--thanks again for meeting me in dubuque.
I really appreciated it. Hope you had a nice ride home.
Darcy

Tosi made it safe and sound. The Northwest service was very prompt and corteous. Thank you so much. He
came home to St Joseph and immediately loved the grass. It is amazing such few hours and he is a bundle of
energy and joy. We are thinking his name is better as Tosi and he seems to like it much better than Kubo (Tosi
was our second choice). He is great at following us around, it is amazing. Thanks again,
Kyra and Glenn

Hi Nancy,
I just wanted to let you know that he is doing great. Eating well and having a good time getting to know his new
family! Keep us informed about the new litter, I think we are hooked on Chins. Thanks,
Richard

Good Morning Nancy:
Everything is just doing fine here. Murphy is getting along great with people and his playmate Snickers next door.
Snickers is a year old Maltese and they have a great time together. Everybody who sees Murphy thinks he is
adorable. Take care
Kathy

Nancy,
I have a friend who is so impressed with my puppy she was wondering if there were any more left in the litter?Let
me know price and availabilty. He is a great little pup. Doing very well.
Muriel

My sister recently got me a puppy from you. I want to let you know we are both adjusting very well. We have
been to the vet and he is perfect, my word, not the vet, haha. Thank you.
Phyllis and Maverick

Sorry for this late message, but Sam arrived just fine and is a total ball of energy. I think I might name him Buzz
after Buzz Lightyear because he is so happy and fast.
Genny

Nancy,
Miller arrived safely at Manchester. We have been home for about an hour. I am trying to get him to be a Red Sox
Fan. Great little pup. Thank you.

Dear Nancy,
Maverick has arrived safe and sound. My sister has already begun the spoiling process. Just wanted to say
thanks again for the joy the little one is bringing to my sister.
Faye

Nancy,
This flight reservation will be fine. You did answer all of my questions, thank you so much! I'm really looking
foward to Friday! -Veronica =) P.S. I have a friend who's interested in adopting a yorkshire terrier pup. Do you
breed these dogs as well? I have been very pleased with your service, and would like to refer her to you if you
breed yorkies. Thanks again for everything!

Nancy
I wanted to drop you a quick note before we leave for the day. We are having a BBQ at the neighbors and going to
the Carnival tonight. The puppies have been great. They have been a complete joy. Attached are a few pictures of
yesterday after they became acquainted with there new home. Tia took a little while to come out of her shell but
now she won't stop. But boy when she sleeps she sure sleeps. Tye has been going since he got here. They both
love to be right there with you all the time. They slept well last night. Didn't hear a peep out of them. They are
going to the vets on Tuesday so he can meet them and get them going on there chart with him. They are also
going in for a little puppy trim around the face and the feet on Wed. My daughter and her friend have become
quite the little mother hens. Pour pups have been dressed up in clothes as you can see in one of Tia's pictures.
We have a larger dog as well. She took to them right off the bat. She let Tye chew on her toes this morning. I was
very impressed. Anyway, I know Ray dropped you a note yesterday but I wanted to myself as well. They are
perfect little balls of fluff and we love having them. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you so much.
We will keep in touch and will send pictures to you.
Julie

Hello Nancy,
I hope you and your family are doing well. I took Junious to the vet today. He is doing fine. He weighs 4.4 lbs. He
has brought so much joy to my life. We are having a few runs around the house when I try to get him in his crate
when I go to work but I win in the end. Smile. He is not wimpy. I have taken him to the Adult Care Home and they
love him. Thank you for those first weeks of socialization. The only thing he really tries to show his dominance on
is his bed and he moves it throughout the house. I want to thank you again for everything you did to make this
purchase an enjoyable one. I will send you pictures as soon as I get them. Take care and God bless.
Trudy

Nancy,
She arrived safely and she is doing fine. Thanks.
Perry

Tom and Nancy

We took the puppies to the vet and he said they were in great shape. He was also very impressed with your
records keeping. The puppies are 2lbs8oz and 2lbs even ...I have named mine Nickie, and Paulette has named
hers Amy. They are so cute...and they are adjusting nicely. So far we are letting them sleep together so they
dont cry . I will keep you posted on what is going on with them.
Sincerely,
Dorothy

Hi Nancy,
I just wanted to let you know that Gracie got here safe and sound..She is the cutest. I just love her..
Thanks for everything
Veronica

Dear Nancy,
I LOVE Taffy - she is so adorable! When i first heard my parents car outside I was out there so fast! Eek! She
gets along with all the dogs and all the family she's met so far! She has really taken to Oreo, my other shih-tzu.
It's so cute becuase while we were outside I set her and him both down and Taffy layed down and Oreo came
over and layed right next to her! I just figured I would email you and tell you how much I love the puppy since I
didn't get to go! My mom and dad both adore her also! Thanks so much
Carli

Hi Nancy. Just wanted you to know that all is going well with Major. He is such a doll!! Everyone loves

Debra

Hi Nancy!
I've attached some recent pictures of Lucy and my youngest daughter. She is such an amazing dog! We
absolutely love her! She has adjusted well, and is enjoying sleeping in bed with Joe and I. She plays well with
other dogs and is great with the kids! We couldn't have asked for anything better!
I'll keep in touch!
Misty

Hi Nancy,
I am writing this w/ a puppy on my lap - he is sulking because I gave him a bath. Just like a baby.
Nancy, I have never seen a more joyful creature than this little guy. He is a bundle of energy, jumping and
bouncing, running everywhere. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He has his appointment for shots
in a week so hopefully the joy will remain. He is doing well on potty training, a few accidents here and there. He
is wearing a collar and went on a nice leash walk w/ me the other day. I carried him part of the way, but he still
did very well for his first walk. I ordered a knapsack off the internet to carry him when I do my more strenuous
walks. He still sleeps w/ me at night, burrowing down under the covers and being as good as gold. Next Tuesday,
mom is taking him home for a few hours so he won't be alone during the day. She stops by during the workday
often. I will try to get some picture this weekend and send them. Everyone says he is growing lilke a weed; I can't
tell since I see him every day, but he is eating well. I try to stick w/ his dog food but he is somewhat of a beggar.
The other day he ate some banana and apple. I couldn't believe it, I never thought a dog would eat fruit.
Karen

Hi Nancy and Tom,
We have had Zlato now for over two years and she is just great. As a matter of fact my cousins in Canada
purchased Emma from you about a year ago. They met Zlato visiting us and just had to have one just like her.
Well Emma and Zlato got to meet this June and were great together. I have attached a picture of Zlato in the
foreground and Emma behind her with my daughters. My cousin tells me they are half sisters. Hope all is well.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi there. I thought I'd share a picture of Major "Toby" that was taken last week. He is still such a good little boy
and we love him dearly. He is such a love. He weighs just shy of 4 lbs and very healthy and active. His legs are
getting long and he is getting lean. I'm thinking he is going to look like his dad but have his Mother's body.
Debra

Hello Nancy,
I just wanted to let you know that Connor is doing quite well in his new home. He is a little fiesty at times
because he is teething but other than that, he is perfect!!! I thought I would let you know. I haven't had a chance
to take any pictures but his hair and his little body are gettting bigger by the second! The vet said that everything
is okay (he weighs 2 pounds) and he will get the rest of his shots on June 10th. Thank you for giving me an
adorable little puppy I can love. I will keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Jennifer

We have recently purchased 2 female puppies from Nancy and Tom [great people to deal with]. The pups were
Vet checked and found to be healthy, strong and well raised by the breeder. Our vet was also impressed by the
well kept records of these pups from birth to adoption. I have NO reservations in recommending this kennel in
finding their family's special addition.
Paulette

We recently purchased our Italian Greyhound, Lucy, from the Carlson's. We were amazed at how well she had
been taken care of! She even arrived, after her flight, clean and sweet smelling! Nancy was extremely helpful with
any questions that I had, and offered tons of useful advice. We are so happy to have Lucy in our family, and
thankful to Tom and Nancy for making the entire experience so easy.
Misty

This was my first experience buying a puppy on-line. The Carlson's answered all of my questions and provided
weekly pictures. During my puppy's first visit to the vet the Doctor was very impressed with the extent of the care
my puppy had been given. I would recommend them highly.
Gertrude

Wonderful people, very helpful and knowledgeable. My Vet gave Marshall two thumbs up. Recommending you
guys to anyone that is searching for a puppy. Thank you again.

I purchased a puppy from the Carlsons and found them to be helpful and knowledgeable. I would recommend
them highly. The puppy was healthy and my vet said he had never seen a better puppy anywhere. We're thrilled.
